The University of Worldwide Media College (UWMC) has established an Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) Centre to complement education delivery in Ghana and Africa.
The establishment of the University of Worldwide Media College ODeL Centre was initiated in 2024 through discussions between the Ministry of Education and the Worldwide Multimedia Network.
This was followed by a series of workshops and conferences held locally and internationally to address forms issues that may arise during the implementation stage of the Centre.
In a speech read by the Founder Sheikh Dr. Abdul Abass Mohammed at the official launch of the center on February 2024, he intimated that the Centre will also serve as a learning facility for Students and staff in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the development, delivery, and management of Open, Distance and eLearning programs, the officer in charge of Education.
The Minister of Education, Professor Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, And Nana Gyamfi Adwabour Executive Director of the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling underscored the importance of establishing the Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) Center.
He explained that increased enrolment at the primary and secondary levels has brought huge enrolment pressure on traditional Universities. To reduce the tertiary admission deficit, the implementation of an ICT-based distance education in Ghana is the best solution.

He intimated that the establishment of the distance and eLearning Centre at the University of Worldwide Media College Campus by the Worldwide Multimedia Network will go a long way to give more people access to University in Media Education.
He advised the stakeholders of the project, particularly the ICT technocrats and the academics to make sure that it has become a very successful one.
Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai the Director General of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (Accreditation Board) thanked the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Worldwide Media College.
Sheikh Dr. Abdul Abass Mohammed the young Ghanaian Digital innovative entrepreneur and his technical team for their commitment to the implementation of the Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) Centre.
He said, universities in Africa are currently overwhelmed by the increasing student numbers but unable to increase the physical infrastructure to meet the growing demand.
“This is the right time for Africa, especially sub–Saharan Africa, to consider using open distance and eLearning to address the growing need for quality and affordable education and training, however, this requires appropriate policies and funding, meticulous planning and execution, innovation, quality control and development and a vast sensitization campaign” he advised.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WORLDWIDE MEDIA COLLEGE PROGRAM AND FEATURES
The University of Worldwide Media College is a Pan–African, accredited international Tertiary Education institution established by Worldwide Multimedia Network, with the mandate of significantly increasing access to quality higher education and training, through the innovative use of Information Communication Technologies.

Ghana is a signatory to the Charter establishing the Worldwide Media College has its headquarters in Accra, Kenya, and its Regional office in the western region Bogoso-Prestea Huni Valley municipal.
The First Phase of the Worldwide Support Project was delivered and funded by the Worldwide Multimedia Network and implemented at the University of Worldwide Media College in Ghana, joined the project sponsored by the World Media Bank (WMB Bank)
There is a complete video conferencing system with a home theatrical unit to provide the requisite audio for a larger audience. To improve the delivery of the courses, there is a smart board for use in the delivery of the course material. Two closed-circuit cameras monitor the movement of persons and items in and out of the facility.

This is an Open Distance and eLearning Platform This will serve as learning in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the development, delivery, and management of Open, Distance, and eLearning. It will also serve as a delivery point for the current and future Open, Distance, and eLearning Programmes offered by UWMC from which students can access web-based content for their courses.
